Dermal Filler Treatment in Birmingham

If your face is looking less firm and full than it used to, our dermal filler treatment may be the perfect solution. Dermal fillers take the form of gels which, when injected into the face, smooth out wrinkles, folds or scars to give a rejuvenated, more youthful appearance.

Many people benefit from dermal filler treatments, because everybody’s skin loses collagen as it ages. Collagen is the natural substance that shapes and supports the skin, and as it decreases over time, the natural lines and wrinkles of the skin become deeper and more visible, and the face loses volume. Stress, pollution, sun exposure and smoking can all enhance this process, but dermal fillers can help to reduce the visible effects.

At Lux Aesthetics, we offer a range of dermal fillers, and can create a bespoke treatment package to help you get just the look you want.

What are Dermal Fillers and how do they work?

Dermal fillers are gels made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that is found in the skin. When injected into the face dermal fillers smooth out wrinkles, folds or scars to give a smoother, fresher, more youthful appearance.

Many people have dermal filler injections around the nose and mouth to soften the lines that often occur there. They can also be used to smooth out scars or dents in the face and to define and enhance lips, or define and plump out cheeks.

Who are Dermal Fillers suitable for?

Dermal fillers are often chosen by both women and men. They may be for you if:

  •  You have lines, wrinkles or sunken cheeks, making your face look tired
  •  You have deep lines and wrinkles, meaning Botox® isn’t right for you
  •  You do not want to undergo invasive surgical treatments like a facelift

What will treatment involve?

During treatment, the skin is cleansed and a numbing cream applied to minimise discomfort. The practitioner will then inject small amounts of dermal filler directly into the skin.

Treatment takes less than 30 minutes and the results are immediately visible.

What areas can Dermal Fillers treat?

Dermal fillers are most effective when used to reduce the visibility of wrinkles, creases and lines in the following areas:

  • Forehead
  • Cheeks
  • Acne scars
  • Glabellar lines – lines between the eyebrows
  • Nasolabial folds – nose to mouth lines
  • Marionette lines – mouth to chin lines
  • Smokers lines – around the mouth and lips

What is the result?

Dermal fillers leave the skin looking fresher and more youthful, plumping up the skin smoothing out lines and wrinkles. The effects are immediate and will last from six months to a couple of years, depending on the type of filler administered.

Is this treatment safe?

Yes, as long as treatment is administered by an experienced and qualified medical practitioner. When treatments are given by people who do not meet these criteria, the process can be very risky, leading to unsightly results and complications.

Dermal fillers are gels made of hyaluronic acid, which is an entirely natural substance, and over time, slowly dissolves, causing no harm to you.

Side Effects

As with most treatments, there is a risk of side effects. However, these are generally mild and temporary. Most common being redness, pain and swelling.

Cautions / contraindications

You should not have this treatment if:

  • You have severe allergies
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding

Clients can carry on with their day as normal as soon as they have had their Dermal Filler treatment.

We recommend that for 24 hours after treatment to avoid extremes of exercise, heat (e.g. saunas, sunbeds, hot showers) and other facial treatments. Avoid rubbing or touching the treated area for around six hours after your treatment.

Most clients tolerate Dermal Filler treatment very well, but if you do experience any discomfort it is perfectly okay for you to take ordinary painkillers.

Please note: Clients seeking injectable treatments, including Dermal Fillers, must attend a face-to-face consultation with one of our medical practitioners. This is to allow the practitioner to conduct a full and personalised assessment, and to discuss in full all side effects and contraindications.
